Guide to Managing Appointments and Their Impact on Text Messaging
When using Text Messaging, there are a few workflow guidelines necessary to receive the anticipated results. (Screenshots are taken from new calendar.)
Rescheduling: If you need to reschedule a text reminder-enabled patient in the calendar, first cancel (X) or set the status of the appointment to "rescheduled" (R), then make a new appointment for the patient.

Cancelling: To cancel a patient appointment, open Event Details and change the status of the appointment to Cancelled (X) rather than deleting the appointment from the Calendar. Appointment deletion may result in patients still receiving a text message reminder.

Notes:
- If a text message reminder-enabled patient is part of a group event/appointment and a repeating event is "recycled" (modified without cancelling/rescheduling and establishing a new repeating event) the Portal Reminder Service report may not reflect the changes accurately. Recycling events is not recommended.
- Patient Portal No Reminder If Confirmed Group Rule: When the group rule is enabled the patient portal reminder queue will not send a reminder out when the appointment status is confirmed. If the group rule is not enabled, then confirmed appointments will continue to get text reminders. To have this group rule enabled, a Security Administrator should email ticket@icanotes.com requesting the Patient Portal No Reminder If Confirmed group rule be enabled.
