ICANotes Hardware, Device, and Internet Guidelines

Hardware & Device Recommendations

ICANotes is a cloud-based EHR platform accessed entirely through a modern web browser. Because no software is installed locally, our requirements are minimal and highly flexible.

General Device Guidance

  1. Device Age: Use a device manufactured within the last 5 years for optimal performance.
  2. Browser Compatibility: Devices must support the latest version of a modern web browser, such as Google Chrome.
    1. Chrome System Requirements
  3. Operating System Support:
    1. Windows and macOS are both supported, provided they are still receiving security updates.
    2. Windows EOL Status
    3. macOS EOL Status

Performance Considerations

ICANotes is not resource-intensive. However, performance can vary based on your environment:

  1. CPU/RAM/Storage: Ensure your device can handle other workloads you use alongside ICANotes.
  2. We recommend testing using a free trial:
    1. ICANotes Free Trial
  3. Use the trial to:

    1. Log in
    2. Create a note
    3. Navigate multiple pages
    4. Print a chart

If all actions perform smoothly, your device is likely sufficient.

Tablets & Portables

  1. Convertible Laptops with touchscreens often offer a better experience than traditional tablets.
  2. Avoid Chromebooks and low-end Android tablets, which may have limited performance and browser support.
  3. Ultimately, buy what you like just ensure it can run a modern browser.

Scanning Documents

If scanning into ICANotes is a part of your workflow:

  1. Use a mid-range or higher sheet-fed scanner
  2. Confirm compatibility with your operating system (Windows or macOS)

Telehealth Devices

ICANotes Telehealth is accessible at: https://telehealth.icanotes.com

It supports:

  1. Modern Windows and Mac systems
  2. Up-to-date browsers

For the latest requirements, see: Telehealth Requirements Article

Internet & Network Recommendations

Preferred Setup: Wired Ethernet connection is recommended for:

  1. Security
  2. Reliability
  3. Stable performance

Wireless connections (Wi-Fi) may work but can be more prone to instability and speed fluctuations.

Recommended Minimum Network Stats (Per User)

      Metric                                 Recommendation
Download Speed                       5 Mbps or higher
Upload Speed                            1 Mbps or higher
Latency (Ping)                              Under 100ms
Jitter                                              Under 30ms
Packet Loss                                  Less than 1%

Cellular internet (4G/5G) is not recommended. These connections are often unstable or insecure in shared or public environments.
